Surgical fabrics must undergo a rigorous testing regime before they are sold into the surgical market. Hydrostatic pressure testing, water resistant impact penetration testing as well as flammability testing must be completed before production can begin
The hydrostatic pressure test (EN ISO 20811) is a measure of pressure required to force water through fabric. The higher the value the more resistant the fabric is to water.
The water resistant: impact penetration test (AATCC 42) method is performed to determine the penetration resistance of fabric. It measures the resistance of fabrics to the penetration of water by impact, and thus can be used to predict the probable resistance of fabrics to liquid.
Flammability testing provides methods to test the flammability of various products
